Easy French Toast Sticks

Crispy on the outside and soft inside, these french toast sticks are made with thick bread dipped in a cinnamon-vanilla custard. Ready in 20 minutes with stovetop, oven, or air fryer options.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 thick slices of bread, brioche, challah, or Texas toast, about 1 inch thick
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for the pan
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Method
 

  1. Slice each piece of bread into 3–4 even sticks, about 1 inch wide.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt.
  3. Dip each bread stick in the custard, coating all sides, and let excess drip off.
  4. Heat butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook the sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  5. Optional oven method: Bake at 425°F for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.
  6. Optional air fryer method: Air fry at 375°F for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway.
  7. Serve warm with maple syrup.
